Indianapolis, Indiana, October 23, 2025
The Monroe County Charlotte Zietlow Justice Center in Indiana was temporarily closed recently following the discovery of mold and efforts to have it remediated, according to multiple news reports. Ongoing moisture problems in the building reportedly created conditions where mold developed and spread.
Mold needs moisture to grow indoors. It thrives in damp, humid environments. Leaks, condensation, or high humidity levels provide the water mold spores require to begin colonizing. In addition to moisture, mold also needs an organic food source, which can be found in many building and household materials such as wood, drywall, carpet, and even dust. Warm temperatures and limited airflow further encourage mold growth, making poorly ventilated spaces especially vulnerable.
“Mold contamination is more than a maintenance concern; it can directly impact health and indoor environmental quality,” said Joe Frasca, Senior Vice President of Marketing at EMSL Analytical, Inc. “At EMSL, we operate a laboratory in nearby Indianapolis, as well as dozens more across North America, to provide rapid testing for mold, bacteria, lead, asbestos, and other indoor exposure concerns. Our mission is to help building owners and managers identify issues quickly so steps can be taken to protect both occupants and staff.”
