The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced an allergy alert and voluntary product recall issued by a consumer health company involving two lots of a dietary supplement that may contain undeclared egg, hazelnut, and soy.

According to the recall notice, individuals with allergies or severe sensitivities to egg, hazelnut, or soy risk serious or potentially life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume the affected product.

The recalled supplement, marketed to support normal respiratory and sinus function, was distributed nationwide through online retailers. Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to stop using it immediately and return it for a replacement.

The Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) requires that food labels clearly identify the source of ingredients that contain proteins derived from the most common food allergens. These allergens are responsible for approximately 90% of food-related allergic reactions and include milk, eggs, wheat, crustacean shellfish, fish, tree nuts, peanuts, and soybeans. In addition, sesame was designated as the ninth major allergen under the Food Allergy Safety, Treatment, Education, and Research (FASTER) Act, which took effect in 2023.
